American Artist Laura Lengyel is pleased to announce the unveiling of her eye-catching giant bronze sculpture “Tilted Tomato” in Pittston, PA at the 25th Annual Pittston Tomato Festival Anniversary Ball on August 16. The work was commissioned in 2003 by Pittston’s 1998-2006 Mayor Michael Lombardo as a tribute to this former coal-mining town in Northeastern PA now known as the “Quality Tomato Capital of the World.” It symbolizes the realization of the Mayor’s vision for city revitalization. Lengyel’s stunning sculpture of an ”Heirloom Variety” tomato with its bright ruby red patina weighs 350 pounds, measures 32” high x 29” x 27” and will no doubt increase interest in this already popular tourist destination.

California steel sculptor Benbow Bullock recommended Ms. Lengyel to Lombardo when he was looking for a big tomato sculpture for a new festival pavilion. Lengyel, an experienced fine art professional, sculpted the giant Heirloom tomato to resemble a Beefsteak or Abe Lincoln in her San Francisco Bay Area studio. The bronze sculpture was cast in the ancient lost wax method at Bronze Plus, a fine art foundry in Sebastopol, CA. “Tilted Tomato” is available and may be ordered as a limited edition multiple by contacting the artist.

In 2004, Lengyel displayed a Gold Red mixed media version at the Kendall Jackson Heirloom Tomato Festival, Santa Rosa, CA, and won the Best of Show award in a juried food art exhibit at Artisans Art Gallery, Mill Valley, CA.
